| Mythographe
editions operates out of the Maldon Marbles Studio owned
by sculptor Michel Dubey. The studio, located at 48
High St, Maldon, Victoria, was built in 1862. It was
the home of the Maddocks family during the 1870s when
the parents of four children died within months of each
other. The children continued to live in the house under
the care of Mary Bourke who became the wife of George
McArthur, the first benefactor of the Melbourne University
Baillieu Library.
When Michel bought the house, then known as Vivian’s
House after the Vivian family, it was in great disrepair.
He undertook the careful restoration of the house and
now uses it as his home and studio.
The unusual brick work around the front
windows and door and the decorative finials on the parapet
of the facade are reminiscent of a Moorish style of
architecture. If you look carefully at the brick work
to the left of the front door you can see the imprint
of two possum paws. |
Apart from purchasing on line, the prints and greeting
cards can be viewed and purchased from the studio which
is opened Friday to Sunday,
10am – 5pm.
The Maldon Marbles Collection of original bas-relief
marble sculptures of stories from classical mythology
can also be viewed in person at the studio or by going
to www.maldonmarbles.com
